City of Pomona
The Phillips Family
Felisa Phillips and her five daughters: Aquilla, 17; Atara, 16; Ashley, 15; Amber, 9; and April, 6; moved into the 26th home built by Pomona Valley Habitat for Humanity in August 2003. Felisa's grandmother also lives with them. Their new home, located on Wisconsin Street in Pomona, has four bedrooms and two full bathrooms. The Phillips had previously lived in a home that had a heater that smoked when it was turned on and a ceiling that leaked. "Habitat has saved my life," said Felisa Phillips. She feels without Habitat for Humanity's help she would not have been able to own a home or move out of her current home. Several donors including the Casablanca Fan Company of Pomona and Rainbird of Glendora played an important part in collecting the funds and supplies needed to build the Phillips home. This home took a little longer to construct because it is located in a historic district in Pomona. It was necessary to build a home that blended in with the rest of the neighborhood.
