Brush with Kindness Committee
Purpose:  In the spring of 2007, Pomona Valley Habitat for Humanity initiated a new community outreach program called "A Brush with Kindness" (BWK).  The BWK program seeks to help low-income homeowners who are challenged by age, disability or circumstance.  BWK focuses on improving the exterior appearance of our client's home by painting, landscaping and providing minor repairs.  The BWK program serves low income homeowners struggling to maintain a decent place to live.  We could use your help.  Please become a BWK volunteer.  The Committee meets once a month.  For more information, click here to email Committee Chair, Joe Molamphy.
Church Relations Committee:
Purpose:  Recruit and nurture the support of churches to be a part of all facets of the affiliate life. The Committee meets on the third or fourth Thursday of each month at First UMC of Ontario  (918 N. Euclid). Design and Contruction Committee:

Purpose: Represents realtors, architects, engineers, city planners, building inspectors, crew leaders, and materials procurers as they work on design and construction activities conforming to construction forecast plans. The committee works closely with the PVHFH President/CEO in acquiring land for projects, chiefly in feasibility of the site for Habitat use and DDA (disposition and development) agreements. Members will develop site and house designs in coordination with the various City andCounty Planning and Building Departments and obtains all required permits and approvals. The committee works closely with the Construction Project Manager in all phases of construction.  The committee meets at 3 PM on the second Wednesday of the month at the Access Business Center onFoothill Blvd., in La Verne. Click here to email the Committee chairs Jessica Needham and Howard Towne.

Family Partners Committee:

Purpose:  Welcomes prospective homeowners to the Habitat family.  Interacts regularly to support and encourage the family as they earn sweat equity.  Provides opportunities for homeowner to develop skills for successful home ownership, i.e., knowledge of financing, mortgages, budgeting, home maintenance. Members assist family in accessing any needed social services.   Serves as advocate for the family and serves as a liaison with Habitat.  The committee meets at 9:30 AM on the first Saturday of each month in Porter Hall at Pilgrim Place in Claremont. Click here to email Committee Chair, Eilleen Logan.

Family Selection Committee:

Purpose:  Responsible for drafting and implementing selection criteria that will find the best and most deserving families for a Habitat home.  Each selection is made based on certain criteria including screening applications and financial documents, interviewing prospective families and performing home visits. The first contact potential homeowners have with Pomona Valley Habitat for Humanity is through the Family selection Committee. Once an applicant has been chosen and approved as a homeowner, the committee will introduce the family to their Family Partner Committee member and begin the selection process again. ReStoreCommittee:

Purpose:  Create and overview the operation of a ReStore operation in Pomona Valley. ReStore will accept donations of construction and architectural materials that will be used in our home building efforts or sold at discount to the public. This effort will divert tons of material from local landfills while providing deep discounts on the materials to help low-income home owners and renters with an affordable home-improvement shopping opportunity. The committee is searching for volunteers with expertise in retail management, business plan preparation, commercial rentals, pick-up & delivery of large items. To email Committee Chair, Steve Lewis, click here.

Marketing and Special Events Committee:

Purpose:  Involves a wide variety of opportunities to encourage individuals and organizations to place Pomona Valley Habitat for Humanity on their list of organizations to support.  Plans and supports special events, uch as the Celebrating Partnerships Gala.  Also creates media releases, newsletters, marketing collateral pieces, and more that put the spotlight on Habitat’s affordable housing successes in the Pomona Valley. We are seeking volunteers who have expertise or interest in writing, fundraising, event planning, and/or have strong connections with areas businesses. The committee meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 PM at the La Verne Church of the Brethren, 2425 E. Street, La Verne, CA 91750. Student Special Events Committee:

Purpose: Brings together high school and college students to create fundraising programs and events to assist with fund development for Pomona Valley Habitat for Humanity. The committee will meet once a month to discuss ideas for fundraising events, publicity, community outreach, and recruitment of their fellow students. Volunteer Committee:

Purpose: Provide Community Outreach to find and inform volunteers about Pomona Valley Habitat for Humanity. Help volunteers find projects that will be fulfilling to themselves and the organization. Help volunteers “grow in Habitat” by offering meetings and training on a variety of topics. Recognize the many ways volunteers help achieve our goals. We especially need: trainers; event planners; construction support help; people willing to reach out and ask for support; and your ideas about supporting our many valuable volunteers.
