Getting Started

THANK YOU for your interest in volunteering.  Congratulations on showing the heart, intellect, and health to help provide affordable housing for those in need in our community!

In our tough economic times, the biggest factor affecting the work we are able to provide, is our ability to raise funds. We’ve created a way every volunteer can be a part of our efforts with the Workday Pledge. Pomona Valley Habitat for Humanity depends on its dedicated volunteer workforce to build homes. By participating in our Workday Pledge Program you are helping us in our efforts to provide simple, decent affordable homes for low income families. We cannot offer volunteer opportunities without the funding to support our projects.  Thank you for helping us to raise awareness, funds, and homes for families in need.

Here’s how it works.  Download the Workday Pledge Form, commit to raising $25 or more and get started. This is a great way to tell family, friends, co-workers and others about your work with Habitat and encourage them to join you in supporting the Organization's efforts. The Pledge form offers suggestions for who to ask and how to get started, but if you have additional questions please contact Morgan Sternquist, PVHFH Volunteer Coordinator, at 909-596-7098 Ext 204.  If everyone on the job site each day raised at least $100, we could fund the construction of an additional house through this effort alone!

The Dirty Work: Hands-on opportunities

Currently we are offering hands-on opportunities at our ReStore.  Volunteer Orientations take place at the ReStore every Saturday at noon and we highly recommend attending this before you volunteer.

Beyond The Hammer: Non Construction Activities.

Are you looking for a way to help in a non-construction type of activity and have a few hours to spare? Volunteers are needed in the following areas:

·      Committees

Join the behind the scenes teams that operate our affiliate. For committee descriptions and details on who to contact, please click here to see the Committee Overview page.

·       Photography

Capture the work of our volunteers on the construction site, in the ReStore and at special events on camera and help us to showcase the work of PVHfH.  Volunteers must be at least 16 years old and have their own camera.  Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Morgan Sternquist, at 909-596-7098 ext 204 for more information.

 ·      Share your Skills

Do you have a skill we have not asked about?  Let us know.  We could have the perfect volunteer opportunity for you. Let our Volunteer Coordinator, Morgan Sternquist, know about your talents.  Call her at 909-596-7098 ext  204 or email her.

IMPORTANTAll PVHFH Volunteers are required to complete a Volunteer Waiver Form.  Minors are required to complete the Minor Volunteer Waiver portion of the form.  Yearly waivers are required regardless of the type of work you perform.  Waivers may be returned to our office, to the work site, to a Committee Meeting, or to a Volunteer Orientation Meeting.  See the form for our mailing address. Policy #18, regarding our safety practices, has been approved by our Board of Directors and should be read by all volunteers.  Be a well educated Volunteer when you arrive at the designated job site. Volunteer Training can be found here.

ReStore Volunteers

Pomona Valley Habitat ReStore depends heavily on volunteers. We need help with cashiering responsibilities, picking up donations, organizing products, performing maintenance on our facilities and much more.

If you have retail, warehouse, and/or delivery and driving experience and would like to volunteer, we can use your help at the ReStore.

The ReStore is now holding new-volunteer orientations at 12 noon on every Saturday. The sessions last approximately 30 minutes.  You don't have to bring anything with you and reservations aren't required.  These orientations give volunteers an opportunity to check out the ReStore and see if it is a good fit for them. It also gives Andrew Johnson, the ReStore Manager, the chance to meet you and see how you can best serve our organization. ReStore address is 4609 Holt Blvd., Montclair, CA 91763.
